2019 Infrastructure Pipeline Report released

Building Queensland has released the 2019 Infrastructure Pipeline Report, detailing 18 priority proposals under development by the Queensland Government.
Over 70 per cent of proposals previously listed in the report have progressed to further stages of development, with six securing funding for delivery. The funded projects include Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3A; new primary, secondary and special schools in South East Queensland; a new correctional facility at Gatton; and the rollout of information technology to improve the delivery of frontline child safety and youth justice services.
The progress of many early stage assessments has meant Building Queensland is now leading the development of detailed business cases for:
- Bundaberg Hospital Redevelopment
- Toowoomba Hospital Redevelopment
- Paradise Dam Improvement Project
- Somerset Dam Improvement Project.
These are in addition to the business cases underway by Building Queensland for projects that have a funding commitment for delivery, including the Burdekin Falls Dam – Saddle Dam and Monolith Improvement Project and New Youth Detention Centre.
The 2019 infrastructure pipeline is characterised by a greater balance of economic and social infrastructure projects—both of which are necessary for developing the Queensland economy and enhancing the quality of life for all Queenslanders.
Recognising the need to meet the demands of a larger population, various education and health proposals—including greenfield developments—are in the pipeline.
Several detailed business cases are also underway for our critical water supply assets to ensure they continue to function safely during extreme weather events. Engineering standards have changed since many of our dams were built, and these business cases are investigating solutions to meet the latest guidelines on acceptable flood capacity.
Our Infrastructure Pipeline Report has shone a spotlight on the state’s unfunded priority proposals. The transparency of our advice has helped build confidence in the Queensland Government’s investment decisions. Since our first report in June 2016, 23 proposals have received funding commitments for delivery.
With the recent amendments to the Building Queensland Act 2015, our Infrastructure Pipeline Report will now transition to an annual cycle. We will continue to provide transparency of the state’s major infrastructure proposals through our website and we remain firmly focused on achieving our goal of enhancing infrastructure outcomes for the state.
